Second passage at Sainte Marine

6th SNSM Record, from June 18th to 22nd.
At 1100 hrs this Monday morning, Groupama 70 was 7 miles from the "La Voleuse" mark positioned near the port of Sainte Marine. Sailing under spinnaker and full mainsail, the VOR 70 was tacking through a 7 knot wind gradually clocking round from the SE to the SW and likely to end up in the western sector.

Setting out from Saint Nazaire at 1434 hrs local time yesterday, Groupama 70 was completing her first passage to Sainte Marine at 2247 hrs, returning to Saint Nazaire at 0447 hrs this morning and hence set to make it back to Sainte Marine at around 1145 local time.

Contacted by telephone, the onboard navigator Jean-Luc Nélias had this to say: "Sailing conditions are currently calm. Last night we had a little more wind of between 12 and 15 knots. We've just crossed tacks with a 50 foot trimaran and were able to spot the first IMOCA, Brit Air, thanks to the AIS. It is 15 miles behind us. If all goes to plan, we should cross the finish line in Saint Nazaire between 2000 and 2200 hours."

The first finisher, the trimaran Gitana 11, crossed the finish line at 1013 hours local time this morning.
