    Record beaten : 7 days 10 hours 58 minutes and 53 seconds

Following a Spanish start with very light winds of 5 to 8 knots and a few tricky hours to extricate itself from the Bay of Cadiz, the wind turns allowing Groupama 3 to breeze down to the Canaries. After some 30 hours at sea, Franck Cammas and his nine crew sail past the Spanish archipelago in the early evening of Wednesday 25th April.

From then on starts Groupama 3's first Atlantic crossing: an ocean "christening" lasting about 4 days, sailing with trade winds stronger than forecast in the weather reports, on average 2 to 3 knots stronger.

Approaching the Antilles coastline on Monday 30th May, the Van Peteghem - Lauriot Prévost design knows its longest day. An area of weaker winds and numerous squalls noticeably slow Groupama 3's progress. But contrary to all expectations, this area fades away approaching the Bahamas. On their last night at sea Franck Cammas and his crew cruised along with a 20-knot Easterly gust of wind.

On Tuesday 1st May at 18h46'10'' UT Groupama 3 crosses the finish line offshore Cockburn Town, on the island of San Salvador in the Bahamas.
