The low

Jules Verne Trophy
Forced to perform several gybes on Saturday to free herself from the clutches of the Saint Helena High, Groupama 3 has finally been able to catch up with an Argentinean low to slip along on a heading taking her to the Cape of Good Hope.

By shifting towards Africa, the high pressure of the South Atlantic didn't make things easy for Groupama 3 in terms of trajectory. The latter was forced on several occasions to make a course at 90° to its direct route so as not to make matters words in the high pressure calms... In the end though, Franck Cammas and his nine crew have been able to extract themselves from this tricky situation by hitting a warm front and then allowing themselves to get caught by an initial low stemming from Argentina.

Its effects will really take shape at midday this Sunday as the NW'ly winds will then fill to over 25 knots at least as far as South Africa. Yesterday, which was the point of transition between the fine weather of the Southern Atlantic and the strong winds of the roaring 40's, has nevertheless enabled the giant trimaran to drop down under 33° South and pass gently from the tropical heat to the colder temperatures of the Deep South. A change of atmosphere is therefore assured aboard Groupama 3!
