After two days at sea, Groupama 3 is off the archipelago of Madeira and leaves on the port side by adopting a route to the broad in order to circumvent the Canaries by the West.

Orange II and Groupama 3, exactly three years apart, had followed, on the latitude of Lisbon to the Cape St Vincent, the same path: that similarity no longer be with the weather raging in off the Madeira archipelago. From little time with breezes rarely exceeding twelve knots, which limits the possibilities for accelerating the giant trimaran which rarely exceed 23 knots for 24 hours. Result: a second day Wednesday to just over 20.6 knots, but an advance that is beginning to be built on the time set by Bruno Peyron: nearly sixty miles ...

In fact, the catamaran in 2005 had not received a very favourable weather and had to slide towards the Moroccan coast to spend the Canaries. And it is not always the strategy of Franck Cammas and his crew who want to deviate disturbances volcanic terrain and especially beyond a new zone of calm before catching the trade winds after this African archipelago.
