Fortissimo!

iShares Cup 2009 - Hyères TPM, from 3rd to 5th July 2009
And here we are. The training time is up and now the racing can commence this afternoon off the port of Hyères TPM. Along the quays, the crews are devouring their sandwiches, bottles of cold water within reach due to the intense heat.

In this way, the crews won't be caught unawares. From the start they will have to be incisive at the starts, which has proven to be the key to favourable results.

Aboard Groupama 40, Franck Cammas and his crew know all about that. Up against some first rate competition, they'll be giving it their all in what is forecast to be a strengthening breeze, set to reach up to around twenty knots. In these conditions, crews will need to be physical to get the very best from the 40 foot catamarans, without slipping up.

A powerful bowman, Fred Le Maistre is likely to be very tired this evening. The same is true for Thierry Fouchier who trims the headsails. As for Tanguy Cariou, the tactician who is there to select the best trajectory, he's going to have to be inspired. At the helm, Franck will set the pace whilst attempting to maintain the balance. A determined conductor, his performance will be judged over the course of the races, which will each last just fifteen minutes or so.
