Up with the action...

F18 Worlds - from 5th to 11th July in Nigrán (Pontevedra) - Spain
Each time it's the same thing: at the start of a championship, whether it be local, regional, national and, even more so with a lot of competitors, you wonder whether you're going to be up to scratch. That you're called Cammas or Lagarrigue, doesn't mean there's an exception to the rule.

Today, at the start of the first race of the Formula 18 championship, all was going well for the crew of Groupama. Authors of a clean start, the two sailors quickly took to the head of operations along with the series' leaders. On the right-hand side of the race zone, all was going well, until the wind decided otherwise, filling in as it backed.

The upshot of this for the Groupama catamaran was a rounding of the first mark in a rather mediocre 40th position out of 80 boats in the opening race.

Rest assured however that the crew hadn't had their final say this Monday. Benefiting from every variation in the wind, and making the most of Jérémie's experience, the skipper of Groupama picked off his rivals one by one, crossing the finish line in 11th position.

A fine comeback but not good enough to satisfy the winning mentality of the two men.

During the second race of the day, whose late start explains this nocturnal text, Franck and Jérémie upped the ante by linking together a clean start, good speed and faultless tactics. On the finish line, there was nobody ahead and everyone behind. It was the just the kind of finish everyone enjoys.

However, there's still a long way to go yet, so patience is required...
