Columbus Route : Record beaten by Groupama 3 !

Franck Cammas and his crew have just popped a first trophy into their record "hunt bag"... Setting off on the Columbus Route from Cadiz on Tuesday 24th April at 7h47'17'' UT*, Groupama 3 crossed the finish line in San Salvador today, Tuesday 1st May at 18h46'10'' UT, after 7 days 10 hours 58 minutes and 53 seconds at sea (race time subject to approval by the WSSRC - in process). The record held by the American Steve Fossett since February 2003, - 9 days 13 hours 30 minutes and 18 seconds - is beaten and improved by 2 days 2 hours 31 minutes and 25 seconds.

The latest of the Groupama trimarans covered the 3 901 miles separating Cadiz from San Salvador at the average speed of 21,79 knots, compared to an average of 16,92 for Playstation.
